Man Killed, Manuel Guerrero Injured in Norwalk Car Accident
NORWALK, CA (July 2, 2019) – A man sustained serious injuries following a deadly multi-vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in Norwalk, officials said.
The crash happened around 3:00 a.m. on southbound 605 Freeway at Alondra Boulevard. According to the CHP, a 2010 Kia Soul approached stopped traffic when it failed to slow down and slammed into the back of a 1995 Toyota Camry. As a result, the impact caused the Toyota to hit a 2018 Freightliner truck in front of it.
Police pronounced the driver of the Kia dead at the scene.
The authorities stated the fatal victim did not have a seatbelt on at the time of the accident. In addition, they described him as a 52-year-old Cerritos man. However, his name will be withheld pending next of kin notification.
The Toyota driver, 68-year-old Manuel Guerrero of La Puente, suffered serious injuries and taken to a hospital.
The driver of the big rig, 57-year-old Ki Ho Baek of La Puente, did not sustain any injuries.
Video from the site showed a heavily damaged red sedan disabled across two lanes, facing the side of the big rig.
Authorities closed the right three lanes of the freeway for about 4 and half hours to investigate the incident. In addition, a clean up operation took place the scene. However, all lanes reopened around 7:30 a.m.
