Fatal Pedestrian Crash at Bell Road and 21st Avenue
PHOENIZ, AZ (August 24, 2019) – A man was killed after being struck by a vehicle late Saturday evening in Phoenix.
The fatal crash happened around 11:04 p.m. at Bell Road and 21st Avenue.
According to police, a 28-year-old man was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado westbound on the curb lane of Bell Road when he struck the victim.
The pedestrian, 54-year-old Manuel Araiza, was taken to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver remained on scene and was not impaired at the time of the crash. He told police that he did not see the man until just before hitting him. He was unsure where the pedestrian came from or what direction he was going before the impact, police said.
Investigation of this crash is ongoing.
