Man Hurt in Ventura Hit-and-Run Crash
VENTURA, CA (March 18, 2019) – A wheelchair user suffered injuries following a hit-and-run crash in Ventura on Thursday, March 14.
According to the Ventura Police Department, the crash happened at about 10:32 p.m. at South Garden and East Main streets. Officers arrived within minutes and discovered a 64-year-old man lying in the Main Street crosswalk with visible injuries, police said.
The man was conscious but complained of pain. Paramedics rushed him to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said that the victim had been in his wheelchair and crossing Main Street in a west crosswalk. A vehicle was moving north and made a left turn from Garden Street. Then it traveled onto westbound Main Street and hit the victim, police said. The driver never stopped to render aid and drove away.
The victim’s wheelchair was destroyed.
No description of the driver, who fled at the scene, was available.
Authorities believe the vehicle involved in the incident was a black, two-door sedan.
