Vehicle Hits and Kills Man in Wheelchair in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 10, 2019) – A man in a wheelchair died at a local hospital due to the injuries he sustained after being struck by a vehicle in Bakersfield Tuesday morning. Officials said the man was in a crosswalk, trying to cross the intersection of Calloway Drive and Rosedale Highway at around 10:30 a.m. when he was hit.
The victim was determined to have sustained moderate injuries when the Kern County Fire Department and Hall Ambulance personnel arrived at the scene. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died. The victim’s identity will be released by the Kern County Coroner’s Office at a later date.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. Drugs, alcohol, and speeding were already ruled out as probable causes of the collision.
