Man in Mid-80s Struck and Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Third Street
Los Angeles, CA (September 18, 2020) – On Tuesday, a man in the mid-80s died in a pedestrian accident on Third Street.
The fatal accident took place at about 12:45 p.m. on September 8. The victim was struck and killed while crossing the street east of Fairfax Avenue.
Officer Randy Yoshioka, of the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Traffic Division, said the victim was hit by a driver of a 2007 Ford F250 turned left out of the parking lot of the Town and Country Shopping Center on the south side of Third Street.
Apparently, the victim was crossing the street southbound outside of a crosswalk, Yoshioka said.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Furthermore, the 31-year-old driver from Los Angeles stopped and stayed at the scene. Police did not arrest or cite the unidentified driver.
The incident is still under investigation but is believed to be accidental, Yoshioka said.
“There were no alcohol or drugs involved. [The driver] stopped and cooperated with us,” Yoshioka said. “These are tragic. [The victim] was jaywalking.”
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles County Office of Medical Examiner-Coroner declined to provide the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin. Though, Yoshioka said the victim was 85 or 86 years old.
Please call Yoshioka at (213)473-0236 if you have further details about the incident.
