One Dead, One Injured in Martinez Crash
MARTINEZ, CA (December 28, 2018) – A man died when a woman in another car crossed into oncoming traffic and hit his vehicle on Tuesday, December 25.
According to CHP spokesman Officer Sean Wilkenfeld, the collision took place on Cummings Skyway just north of Highway 4 at about 10:45 a.m.
Wilkenfeld said that the woman driving a Ford sedan drifted off the road and onto a dirt shoulder, then overcorrected and crossed into traffic moving in the opposite direction. The man, driving a Nissan Xterra, crashed with the passenger side of the Ford.
The man, whose identity was not immediately available, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman sustained major but non-life-threatening injuries and was rushed to a hospital.
The road was shut down after the incident but reopened around 1:30 p.m.
CHP is investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
