Man Killed and Woman Critically Injured in Crash on South Central Avenue [Los Angeles, CA]

1 Dead and 2 Hospitalized after Suspected Street Race Collision near East 50th Street

 
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 22, 2018) – A man was killed early Sunday morning and two others were hospitalized after a crash on South Central Avenue.
 
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the deadly collision happened at about 1:30 AM, between East 50th and East 51st streets. A 2009 BMW and a white sedan were allegedly involved in street racing when one of them struck a 2002 Ford that was pulling out of a driveway.
 
The BMW broadsided the driver’s side of the Ford, sending the SUV approximately 175 feet away in the southbound direction. Meanwhile, the driver of the white sedan managed to avoid the collision and fled the scene.
 
An unidentified man inside the Ford sustained critical injuries to his head and body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead by the medical staff. His identity and city of residence were not immediately available.
 
A second occupant in the Ford, described as a female, was found severely wounded inside. She was transported to a local hospital where she was listed in critical condition. The driver of the BMW was also hospitalized and is expected to recover soon.
 
Authorities continue to search for the white sedan driver.
