1 Dead in Carlsbad Train Accident near Grand Avenue
CARLSBAD, WA (June 17, 2020) – Monday afternoon, a man died in a train crash near Grand Avenue in Carlsbad.
The fatal crash occurred on June 15 around 2:30 p.m. when a train hit and killed a man who stayed on the path of an oncoming locomotive.
Moreover, the crash took place on the railroad tracks near Grand Avenue and Washington Street, close to the Carlsbad Village Train Station.
“A southbound Amtrak train was traveling at about 80-90 miles per hour when the engineer observed a white male adult walk onto the railroad tracks,” said Deputy Monica Ramirez.
“The male stood on the tracks and faced the train while the engineer sounded the warning horn. The male did not move off of the tracks and was struck by the train,” she added.
The man, whose identity and additional details remain unavailable, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Meanwhile, the North County District declared that they suspended Northbound and southbound Coaster train due to the deadly crash.
