Fatal Collision with Tow Truck at South Oleander Avenue
COMPTON, CA (June 11, 2018) – A man was fatally injured in a possible street racing accident on West Compton Boulevard, early Monday morning. The identity of the deceased victim was not immediately disclosed, pending notification of family.
The accident took place in the area of Compton Boulevard and Oleander Avenue, just after 12:30 AM. A tow truck, driven by Jesus Grifaldo, was traveling eastbound on Compton when rear-ended by a speeding Lexus SUV.
From the impact of the collision, the sport utility vehicle ended up on its roof. The driver inside was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle by fire personnel. Crew members used the “Jaws of Life” and removed several doors in order to take out the deceased man.
Officials are led to believe that the SUV driver attempted to avoid the tow truck, as most of the damage was on the passenger side of the vehicle. Roads were blocked off for several hours while authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the crash site.
According to witnesses, they saw two drivers racing right before the collision. The third vehicle was last seen speeding off, and authorities are looking for the driver and vehicle involved. There is no description of the suspect at this time. No further details have been released to the public.
Heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased victim. May he rest in peace.
