Driver Fatally Injured in Banning Solo-Car Accident
BANNING, CA (May 26, 2019) — A 33-year-old Rialto man died after a solo-car crash on 10 Freeway in Banning on Thursday, May 23.
CHP received reports about the solo-vehicle accident just before 7 a.m., according to CHP spokesperson Officer Darren Meyer.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 2010 Nissan Sentra that had spun off 10 Freeway, east of Hargrave St. It went down an embankment, where it slammed into a tree.
Cal Fire paramedics pronounced the victim and sole occupant of the vehicle deceased at the scene. The victim was wearing his seat belt. His identity was not immediately available, pending notification of his family.
Heavy rain and excessive speed for the conditions played a role in the deadly crash, according to the CHP. Officers have not yet ruled out alcohol and/or drug as contributing factors. CHP is still investigating the incident.
