Subcontract Company Driver Fatally Struck while Picking up Cones on I-605 near Peck Road

CITY OF INDUSTRY, CA (June 12, 2018) – A man was fatally struck in a semi-truck accident on Interstate 605, early Tuesday morning. His identity was not immediately disclosed to the public.

The man, a worker contracted by Caltrans, had parked his pickup truck on the right shoulder of the highway, just before 5:00 AM. He exited his vehicle to pick up traffic cones in the area, when his truck was clipped by a semi-truck that veered into the shoulder to avoid another car.

Emergency personnel arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead. The semi driver stated that he moved to the right shoulder to avoid a car that was swerving into his lane, and thought he would have enough room to avoid both vehicles.

Initially, all lanes of the southbound 605 freeway were closed, just south of Peck Road. The other lanes slowly reopened as officials finished up investigating the scene and clearing the road of debris. No additional information is available at this time.

Sincere sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased victim. Wishing them strength and courage during this very difficult time. May he rest in peace.
