50-Year-Old Man Dies in Vernalis Rear-End Collision on 5 Freeway
VERNALIS, CA (May 09, 2019) – A rear-end crash on the 5 Freeway claimed the life of a 50-year-old man early Wednesday morning. According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, north of the Westley Rest Area in unincorporated Stanislaus County, a little after 12 a.m.
CHP officers who responded to the incident found two cars at the scene, one of which was struck at the rear. One driver was not injured and standing outside of his car, while the other driver was still in his car.
Paramedics pronounced the driver who was still in the car dead at the scene due to severe trauma. The victim has been only identified as a resident of Studio City. The other driver was not hurt.
Exactly what caused the crash is still being determined in an ongoing investigation.
