A. Morfin and K. Valdez Involved in Fatal Modesto Crash on Highway 99
MODESTO, CA (March 06, 2019) – A 41-year-old man from Turlock was killed after being involved in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 99 Saturday at about 8:40 a.m.
According to a collision report from the CHP, two cars were involved. A northbound Toyota Prius, driven by 27-year-old A. Morfin of Ceres, was in the last lane of Highway 99 near East Hatch Road. At the same time, a Chevrolet Silverado driven by the fatal victim was northbound in the middle lane.
Morfin drove through standing water on the highway, then turned his vehicle to the right while travelling at a speed of 60 mph. That turn caused the right front of his car to hit the left rear of the Silverado, causing it to veer to the right while rotating clockwise. As a result, the Silverado struck a raised curb, overturned through a chain-link fence, and came to rest in an open field.
The driver of the Silverado, whose identity has not been released pending family notification, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Morfin and his 25-year-old male passenger, K. Valdez of Ceres, were not injured in the collision.
Alcohol and drugs were ruled out as factors in the crash. No one was arrested at the scene according to the CHP.
