Metrolink Train Involved in Fatal Accident near Hunter Avenue
SANTA ANA, CA (January 6, 2020) – A man died after a Metrolink train crashed into a car near Grand Avenue on Monday evening.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened near Hunter Avenue at approximately 5:30 AM.
Reports from the Orange County Fire Authority showed that a northbound Metrolink train 689 traveled along the Orange County Line toward Union Station when it struck a car that was on the tracks. An initial investigation showed the driver stopping inside the crossing arms and watching the train before he drove directly into its path.
The driver of the car died at the scene. However, his identification is not yet known. Officials transported a dog in the vehicle to a veterinarian. However, no one among the 219 people aboard the train was hurt.
All northbound and southbound lanes of Grand Avenue were closed.
The collision is still under investigation.
