Car Crashes into Pole and Overturns on Doolittle Drive Killing the Driver
SAN LEANDRO, CA (January 27, 2020) – A man died when his car slammed into a pole and overturned Friday evening in San Leandro.
The crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of Doolittle Drive.
According to reports, the car hit an electrical pole and sheered it off at the base. It then rolled on its side, trapping the driver inside.
Firefighters and paramedics worked to free the driver and did get him out of the car, police said. They performed CPR and other life-saving measures until an ambulance took him to a trauma center, where the man succumbed to his injuries.
Authorities did not identify the man Monday morning, pending notification of his relatives. Police estimated he was in his 30s.
The crash interrupted electric service in the area. Police had to re-route traffic because of the downed traffic lines. PG&E crews repaired the pole.
Police said they were unsure if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
