Box Truck Overturns on 10 Freeway in Cabazon Killing the Passenger and Injuring the Driver
CABAZON, CA (June 5, 2019) – A man was killed following a rollover crash Wednesday morning in Cabazon, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened around 7:29 a.m. on the eastbound 10 Freeway at Morongo Trail, just past the Main Street exit.
A 36-year-old San Bernardino man was driving an Isuzu box truck in the far right lane of the freeway at about 70 mph when he lost control of the truck. The vehicle drifted onto the shoulder, went over an embankment and struck at least two trees, CHP officials said.
The only passenger inside the truck, a 57-year-old Yucaipa man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has been withheld pending family notification.
The driver was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs with moderate injuries.
Neither the driver nor his passenger were wearing seatbelts.
The fourth lane of the freeway was closed for about four hours while the investigation was being conducted.
