Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Car on Via Rancho Parkway in Escondido
ESCONDIDO, CA (September 24, 2019) – A man was killed in a pedestrian crash Tuesday evening on a street north of Lake Hodges in Escondido, authorities said.
Motorists first reported seeing the man around 7:10 p.m. walking in the middle of West Via Rancho Parkway near Purer Road and acting erratically. CHP officers responded to the scene.
Upon their arrival, they located the pedestrian lying in the roadway. The victim appeared to be about 18 to 25 years old, and was wearing dark clothing. Several good Samaritans stopped to try to help the victim, who died at the scene.
According to a preliminary investigation, an Infiniti M35 sedan fatally struck the pedestrian about 7:25 p.m.
The driver, a 47-year-old San Diego woman, remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. She was not suspected of speeding and was not impaired.
Further investigation of this crash is underway.
