Man Killed in Pedestrian Crash on 80 Freeway at Powell Street [EMERYVILLE, CA]

EMERYVILLE, CA (September 6, 2019) – A man died in a pedestrian crash early Friday morning on 80 Freeway in Emeryville.
 
The fatal crash happened around 4:10 a.m. along the westbound lanes of the freeway at Powell Street on-ramp.
 
According to the CHP, a male pedestrian wearing dark clothing was first spotted sitting on top of the freeway’s center divider. A short time later, a vehicle hit the man.
 
As a result, the pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.
 
Officials closed all westbound lanes 80 Freeway, forming a massive backup during the morning commute. All lanes were reopened until after 5:30 a.m.
 
The identity of the victim was not immediately available. The crash remains under investigation.
