Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Tow Truck on 680 Freeway in Walnut Creek
WALNUT CREEK, CA (June 22, 2019) – A man was killed in a pedestrian crash early Saturday morning in Walnut Creek, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 1:00 a.m. along the northbound lanes of 680 Freeway at Treat Boulevard off-ramp.
According to an initial report, a yellow flatbed tow truck hit a male pedestrian who was in the northbound lanes. As a result, the man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim were not immediately available pending notification of family members.
The tow truck driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
CHP closed several lanes of northbound 680 Freeway for about two hours while they worked on the site. All traffic lanes were re-opened around 2:46 am.
Authorities are still looking into why the pedestrian was on the freeway and urging witnesses to come forward with information.
