Pedestrian Struck and Killed by 2 Vehicles on Artesia Boulevard in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, CA (February 4, 2020) – A man died in a pedestrian crash Tuesday night in Long Beach.
The deadly crash happened around 6:25 p.m. near the intersection of Artesia Boulevard and Atlantic Avenue.
Authorities said a male pedestrian was standing in the roadway and was not in a crosswalk. An 18-year-old driving a GMC Yukon saw the pedestrian and tried to swerve to avoid hitting him, but the left front portion of the SUV hit the man.
The SUV was going about 35 mph on westbound Artesia before the crash, according to authorities.
The impact sent the pedestrian across the median and into the eastbound lanes of Artesia where another vehicle hit him.
Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His identity was not immediately available.
Both drivers stopped and cooperated with the investigation.
Police said distracted driving and intoxication do not appear to be factors in the crash. Both drivers had valid licenses and proof of insurance.
Further investigation is underway.
