Passenger Dies in Los Angeles Hit-and-Run Accident on Imperial Highway and Central Avenue
LOS ANGELES, CA (July 18, 2019) – A man was killed following a hit-and-run rollover crash early Thursday morning in Los Angeles.
The crash happened around 3:13 a.m. at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Central Avenue.
According to police, a woman was driving a Mercedes-Benz SUV eastbound on Imperial Highway near Central Avenue at a high rate of speed when she lost control. The car then overturned and struck a light pole.
A male passenger in SUV was ejected from the car and died at the scene. His name has not yet been released pending family notification.
The woman fled the scene on foot after receiving some help from passersby.
The crash briefly knocked out power to thousands of customers in the area for about an hour. DWP crews worked through the morning to restore power and repair the pole.
AIR7 HD was over the scene where officers were working to clear the scene. Imperial Highway remained closed in both directions near the intersection as the investigation and clean-up efforts continued.
