Man Dies, 2 Injured After Hit-And-Run Crash on Highway 99 in Tulare County

Tulare County, CA (October 28, 2024) – A 26-year-old man from Bakersfield died in a hit-and-run crash on Highway 99.

According to CHP, around 10 a.m. on Sunday, the man was driving a red Nissan Altima north on Highway 99, just north of the K Street over-crossing in Tulare County, when a black Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended his car. 

The impact pushed the Altima across all northbound lanes and onto the shoulder, where it eventually stopped against a wire fence.

Following this initial collision, the Silverado then struck the rear of a white Ford Escape, causing extensive damage to all involved vehicles. 

Tragically, the driver of the Nissan died at the scene, while two of the three Ford passengers sustained minor injuries.

CHP stated that the driver of the Silverado fled on foot and has not yet been located or identified. 

It is currently unknown whether alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
