Crash on Highway 94 in Jamul Sparks Brush Fire
JAMUL, CA (August 3, 2019) – A man died following a head-on crash on Highway 94 Saturday afternoon in Jamul.
The crash on Highway 94 happened around 12:52 p.m. just west of Vista Sage Lane. According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2004 Ford Expedition, driven by a 32-year-old Spring Valley man, was heading westbound, when it lost control and crashed a steel guardrail. The impact caused the vehicle to travel across the westbound lanes into the eastbound lanes hitting a 2006 Toyota head-on.
The Toyota overturned and went down an embankment. It then burst into flames and burned an acre of brush. The male driver of the car, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ford was extricated from the vehicle with major injuries, and was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
The highway was shut down until around 5:45 p.m. while authorities cleared the scene.
Investigation of this fatal crash is underway.
