Pickup Truck Crashes into Tree and Catches Fire on 5 Freeway, Driver Killed
OCEANSIDE, CA (June 3, 2019) – A man was killed following a fiery crash Monday evening on 5 Freeway, in Oceanside.
The crash was reported just before 10:00 p.m., along the northbound lanes of the freeway. First responders arrived about a mile north of Harbor Drive shortly after.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a Ford Ranger crashed into a tree and caught fire as a result, on the shoulder of the freeway. The fire also ignited the tree, sending flames towering into the air.
Passing motorists stopped and rescued the driver from the burning truck before administering emergency medical aid. However, the man died at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending family notification.
The pickup truck was fully engulfed in flames and was found severely damaged.
Authorities are still working on the incident and urging witnesses to come forward with information.
