Car Crashes into Pole on Highway 118 in Oxnard Killing the Driver
OXNARD, CA (October 20, 2019) – A man in his 30s died in a car accident Sunday morning in an unincorporated Ventura County, authorities said.
The crash happened around 6:47 a.m. on Highway 118 at Vineyard Avenue.
According to a report, a black sedan had crashed into a pole at the intersection. Firefighters found the male driver unresponsive, officials said. The vehicle had major damage.
Officials initially thought the driver needed to be extricated with heavy equipment, but ambulance and fire crews were able to free him and perform life-saving measures.
Paramedics then rushed the driver to Ventura County Medical Center, where the unidentified victim later succumbed to his injuries.
A wooden signpost for Highway 118 was leaning and its base was visibly damaged, though it remained standing.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
