1 Dead in Merced Bicycle Accident on 23rd Street and Glen Avenue

MERCED, CA (December 15, 2024) – Friday night, a man died in a brutal bicycle crash on 23rd Street and Glen Avenue.

The crash happened at about 9:15 p.m. on 23rd Street and Glen Avenue, said the Merced Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found a bicyclist lying on the roadway, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Merced Police, witnesses reported that the cyclist was traveling westbound on 23rd Street parallel to a vehicle nearing Glen Avenue. When the vehicle came to a stop, the cyclist failed to stop, entered the intersection, and was struck by a northbound vehicle on Glen Avenue.

The identity of the bicyclist has not yet been released.

Merced Police remind cyclists that they are required to follow traffic laws, including stopping at stop signs and obeying traffic signals. 

Additionally, officials emphasize the importance of having lights on both the front and back of bicycles for safety.
