Big Rig Overturns and Kills Driver after Car Slams into it in Tulare County
TULARE, CA (October 17, 2019) – A man was killed following a big rig rollover crash Thursday afternoon in rural Tulare County.
The crash happened around 1:20 p.m. at Road 36 and Avenue 232.
CHP officials said a 2012 Toyota Corolla, driven by 44-year-old Christina Medina of Tulare, was heading northbound on Road 36 approaching Avenue 232 at about 55 to 60 mph. A big rig pulling a loaded feed trailer was traveling eastbound on Avenue 232 with the right of way.
The Corolla blew through a stop sign at the intersection. The big rig driver failed to evade the Corolla and struck the left front of the car.
The impact forced the Corolla across the south shoulder of Avenue 232, CHP said. The big rig driver counter steered back onto Avenue 232, causing the truck to overturn on its left side.
As a result, the big rig driver suffered major trauma and died at the scene. Authorities only identified him as a 61-year-old man from Visalia.
Medina was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia with unspecified injuries.
The fatal crash remains under investigation.
