Richmond Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on 580 Freeway Turns Fatal
RICHMOND, CA (October 15, 2019) — A man lost his life in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident on 580 Freeway in Richmond early Monday morning.
The collision happened at around 2:41 a.m. on the eastbound 580 Freeway off-ramp. The California Highway Patrol said an unknown vehicle struck the pedestrian who was walking in the number 3 lane.
Reports indicated that the pedestrian suffered severe leg injuries but managed to walk to the shoulder of the freeway. However, he collapsed while attempting to walk down the embankment. The authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene and has yet to be located following a search of the area.
The CHP closed the freeway off-ramp during the investigation. All lanes reopened after the clean-up and emergency response.
