Juan Carlos Alcantara Arrested after Fatal Pedestrian Collision outside South Coast Global Medical Center
SANTA ANA, CA (October 19, 2018) – A man was killed early Friday morning following a hit-and-run crash on South Bristol Street. The identity of the deceased victim is being withheld, pending notification of next of kin.
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the incident took place at about 5:30 AM outside of the South Coast Global Medical Center. A witness made a U-turn after she saw a man lying on the northbound side of the road.
The victim, believed to be a man in his late 20s or early 30s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the driver of the suspect vehicle initially stopped but ultimately fled the area.
About an hour and a half after the collision, the driver, identified as 47-year-old Juan Carlos Alcantara, called the police department stating that he might have struck a pedestrian on Bristol. Alcantara then panicked and left the site of the crash before driving home.
Authorities confirmed that Alcantara will be facing criminal charges. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify other possible contributing factors. No further details have been provided to the public at this time.
