40-Year-Old Man Killed in Devastating Auto Accident on S Edison Road [Bakersfield, CA]

1 Dead in Bakersfield Vehicle Crash on S Edison Road and Herring Road

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 7, 2024) – Early Friday morning, a 40-year-old man died in a devastating auto accident on S Edison Road.

The incident happened at around 5:43 a.m. on South Edison Road at Herring Road.

According to CHP, a preliminary investigation revealed that a 24-year-old man from Arvin was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla south on South Edison Road, slowing down for a stop sign at the intersection with Herring Road. Meanwhile, a 59-year-old man, also from Arvin, was driving a 2023 Toyota Tacoma west on Herring Road at around 55 mph, where there are no stop signs at the intersection with South Edison Road.

The 24-year-old driver did not come to a complete stop at the stop sign, instead slowing to about 10 to 15 mph before entering the intersection, directly in front of the Tacoma. The Tacoma hit the left side of the Corolla. As a result, a 40-year-old passenger in the Corolla sustained severe injuries and was taken to Kern Medical. Both drivers and several passengers from both vehicles suffered minor to moderate injuries and were transported to Adventist Health and Kern Medical.

Later that day, the 40-year-old passenger died from his injuries at Kern Medical. Police reported that alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
