1 Dead in Prunedale Three-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 and State Route 156

PRUNEDALE, CA (August 30, 2022) – Sunday morning, a 22-year-old San Martin man died in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 101 and State Route 156.

The accident happened at about 1:54 a.m on Highway 101 and State Route 156.

According to reports, a 2022 Lexus stalled on the southbound lanes of Highway 101 at State Route 156. Then, the driver and his passengers tried to push the car out of the roadway.

However, a southbound 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 on Highway 101 hit them. Then, the driver was flung onto the road.

Then, an on-duty Monterey County Sheriff’s Officer driving a patrol vehicle hit the driver of the Lexus lying on the roadway motionless.

As a result, the driver succumbed to injuries at the scene.

Meanwhile, the Lexus passengers sustained injuries and responders took them to the hospital. One of them sustained minor injuries, while the other suffered major injuries.

Also, two occupants of the Dodge Ram sustained minor injuries and required hospitalization. Moreover, the MCSO deputy sustained minor injuries.

Monterey Area personnel responded to investigate the crashes. At this time, they haven’t confirmed whether drugs and alcohol played a role in the crash.
