RANCHO MURIETA, CA (August 1, 2024) – Monday night, a brutal police chase crash on Jackson Road and Murieta Parkway killed a man.

The incident happened at about 8:15 p.m. on Jackson Road and Murieta Parkway.

The California Highway Patrol reported that the incident began with a Hyundai Elantra speeding in Amador County just before 8 p.m. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle. Still, the driver did not comply, initiating a chase. The pursuit led the Hyundai onto Highway 49 and westbound onto Highway 16, entering Sacramento County and nearing Murieta Parkway. It was later revealed that the Hyundai was stolen.

According to officials, the male driver of the Hyundai was traveling at around 80 mph when he collided with a woman driving a southbound Rivian RS1 on Murieta Parkway. The Hyundai caught fire after the crash, prompting a CHP officer to rescue the driver and a female passenger from the burning vehicle. Both occupants of the Hyundai sustained major injuries and were transported to a hospital, where the driver later died. His identity has not been released.

In the Rivian, the driver and two passengers, a man and a woman, suffered moderate injuries and were also taken to a hospital. The crash is under investigation, and authorities are still determining if drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
