63-Year-Old Man Killed in Horrific Bicycle Accident on N Chester Avenue and S McCord Avenue [Bakersfield, CA]

1 Dead in Bakersfield Bicycle Crash on N Chester Avenue and S McCord Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 29, 2024) – Saturday night, a 63-year-old man died in a horrific bicycle accident on N Chester Avenue and S McCord Avenue.

The incident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist happened at about 9:14 p.m. on North Chester Avenue, south of McCord Avenue.

A preliminary investigation by CHP revealed that a 28-year-old man was driving a 2004 Chevrolet northbound on North Chester Avenue, south of McCord Avenue, at an undetermined speed. At the same time, a 63-year-old man was riding his bicycle westbound across North Chester Avenue without any lighting equipment during the dark hours, directly into the path of the Chevrolet. The Chevrolet driver couldn’t avoid the collision and struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist sustained moderate to severe injuries and was transported to Kern Medical, where he sadly passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024. The Chevrolet driver was also injured but remained at the scene after the crash. 

CHP stated that the involvement of alcohol and/or drugs is currently under investigation.
