1 Dead in Stockton Bicycle Accident on Highway 4
STOCKTON, CA (January 3, 2020) – A 33-year-old man succumbed to death after a bicycle accident on Highway 4 on December 2.
Stockton police spokeswoman Rose Calderon said, “A driver who was driving down Charter Way hit a bicyclist. That driver remained on scene.” She added that the driver stopped and reported the crash to 911 before 5:00 a.m.
“Before our traffic investigators could go on the scene it appears as though a second vehicle also struck the bicyclist while he was down,” Calderon stated.
The bicycle rider succumbed to his injuries.
“It was early in the morning it was probably still dark outside,” Calderon added. “We don’t know at this point whether or not the driver was able to see the bicyclist or didn’t see him.”
The crash remains under investigation and authorities are looking for the second driver involved in the crash. However, they didn’t consider the crash as a hit-and-run.
“What investigators believe at this time is that second driver of that second vehicle may have been unaware that they struck the bicyclist,” Calderon revealed. “So we are looking for any information on that driver or anybody who may have passed by that area during that time. As a result, we’d just like to take a statement from that individual to complete our report.”
