Man Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision while Sleeping in Parked Car in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (December 11, 2018) – A man sleeping in his car died in a crash involving multiple vehicles on Sunday, December 9.
The accident was reported around 3:21 a.m. at the intersection of Branford Street and Telfair Avenue near an encampment.
According to Los Angeles police, a Chevy pickup truck traveling eastbound on Branford veered off the roadway and collided into a parked Ford Mustang, killing the person sleeping inside.
The victim, who was believed to be living in the vehicle, died at the scene.
The impact of the accident caused the Mustang to crash with another car parked in front of it.
According to Capt. Andy Nieman of the Los Angeles Police Department, the intensity of the incident was so tremendous that it actually forced that first vehicle up and over a second vehicle, where there was also an individual sleeping inside.
The person in the second vehicle described as a Chevrolet El Camino sustained non-life threatening injuries, police stated.
Police said empty beer bottles and drug paraphernalia was found in the truck and the suspect fled the scene by foot.
Police have not determined how fast the suspect was going and is asking for the public’s help to identify the driver of the Chevy Silverado.
We express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased victim. Wishing them strength and support during this time of grief.
