Driver Suffering Medical Emergency Dies in Crash on Telegraph Avenue in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (June 4, 2019) – A man succumbed to his injuries after crashing his car into a parked vehicle Tuesday afternoon, in North Oakland.
The crash happened around 12:45 p.m., in the 4000 block of Telegraph Avenue.
According to the CHP, the male driver was traveling northbound when he passed out and crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic. There, he struck a parked truck.
Responding officers found the driver’s door pinned against the truck. They put the car in neutral, and moved it about 10 feet before they could put it in park. They then had to cut the man out of his seat belt to remove him before starting CPR.
Paramedics arrived and took the driver to a hospital via ambulance. Despite life-saving efforts, the man did not survive and was pronounced dead at 1:39 p.m.
Police close the intersection while they investigated the crash.
