1 Dead in San Jose Incident on Story Road and King Road

 
SAN JOSE, CA (October 13, 2020) – On Sunday, a man died after in an accident on Story Road and King Road near Grand Century Mall.
 
The incident was reported to the authorities at around 6:09 p.m.
 
According to San Jose police, the driver of a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck attempted to park at La Placita Tropicana shopping center. Then, she lost control and crashed into a group of diners.
 
The female driver of the SUV claimed that an accidental acceleration caused the incident. Moreover, the woman added that she “accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.” Thus, the truck lurched forward and hit a man standing near a food cart.
 
Also, the man struck by the SUV died after sustaining serious injuries.
 

Details from a Witness

 
Fatima Soria, an eyewitness, claims that the incident was more of reckless driving than a simple accident. Furthermore, Soria says that when she walked past a food cart and an attached merchant car with her ex-husband and their 2-year-old son, the SUV struck the food cart and the man operating both the carts.
 
The witness said that the impact of the crash forced her ex-husband to grab their son to dive out of harm’s way.
 
“I heard it, I turned and it was too late, all I saw was the cart coming at me, and I got thrown to the wall,” Soria said. “I thought it was the cart exploding, it just came at me. There was a second cart attached to a food cart, that (also) hit me.”
 
“I tried to get up and saw her (the driver) jumping from the driver seat to the passenger seat. I immediately called 911,” she added. “That man, he died, and she didn’t check to see if he was ok. She was just standing there.”
 
Furthermore, Soria, her ex-husband, and their son were examined at a local hospital after sustaining minor injuries.
 
Moreover, the driver inside the truck was loudly arguing with a man outside before the crash, Soria added.
 
“They were fighting, and then she just took off,” Soria said. “Then they tried to lie about it. I can’t let her get away with that. The truth is important.”
 
It is the city’s 39th roadway death of the year in the city and its 16th pedestrian crash death.
 
Also, the truck driver stayed at the scene and the police didn’t arrest or cited her as of this time.
