1 Hurt in Santa Barbara Car Accident
SANTA BARBARA, CA (March 15, 2019) – A driver sustained injuries in a rollover car collision on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara on March 10.
At 3:00 a.m., emergency personnel were called to Calle Real at Hope Avenue, fire Capt. Dave Ward said.
According to reports, an SUV traveling north on the freeway collided with another vehicle. Then, the SUV went off the road and almost crashed through a row of palm trees. Afterward, the SUV crashed into an above-ground electrical unit that controls the traffic signal at the intersection.
“It’s amazing that he threaded between the palm trees, which would have been a lot worse for him had he hit them,” Ward said.
Ward added that the collision damaged the vault and disabled the traffic signals.
Meanwhile, crews utilized the “Jaws of Life” hydraulic equipment to cut the roof off the vehicle and extricate the driver. Medical responders transported him by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
As of this time, the identity and condition of the driver remains undisclosed. No other person sustained injuries in the other vehicle.
