Pedestrian Hit and Injured by Car on El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 06, 2019) – A 68-year-old pedestrian was injured after he was hit by a car on El Cajon Boulevard near 71st Street Friday at around 12:35 p.m.
The San Diego Police Department said the pedestrian was walking northbound, crossing at the intersection of 7000 El Cajon Boulevard, when a driver traveling eastbound on El Cajon Boulevard struck him. It was reported that the crossing is unmarked.
According to Alec Phillip of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department, the pedestrian was unconscious but breathing when the emergency responders arrived. He was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the car, a Honda Fit, stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Alcohol was ruled out as a probable cause of the crash.
The SDPD posted a message on Twitter at around 1:50 p.m. confirming that they closed both eastbound and westbound El Cajon Boulevard between 70th Street and 72nd street including southbound 71st Street. The policed advised motorists to use an alternate route, and by 4 p.m., had reopened the roadways.
