Man Hurt after Seal Beach Fiery Collision
SEAL BEACH, CA (February 13, 2019) – A gas station customer was injured when a vehicle crashed into a gas pump at a Chevron on Sunday, February 10.
Seal Beach police Sgt. Mike Henderson said that one customer was fueling up shortly before midnight when a vehicle careened through the 2900 block of Westminster Boulevard Chevron station.
The suspected drunk driver lost control of the vehicle which then collided into the pump. An explosion occurred, and the customer sustained injuries in the incident.
Orange County Fire Authority firefighters rushed to the area and transported the customer to a nearby hospital. According to OCFA Capt. Larry Kurtz, he was expected to survive.
Authorities arrested the driver identified as 44-year-old James Eric Chang, of Huntington Beach, on suspicion of DUI and crashing into a Westminster Boulevard Chevron station fuel pump.
Officers extinguished the fire in 15 minutes. The collision caused $25,000 in damage to the two cars and $100,000 in damage to the gas station, Kurtz stated.
Chang was being held without bail as of Monday.
