1 Injured in Hit-and-Run Collision South of Sweetbrier Avenue
Shasta County, CA (October 7, 2023) – A 56-year-old man sustained injuries Friday morning following an Interstate 5 collision.
It was about 5:35 a.m. when a 22-year-old man driving a 2019 Toyota Highlander was southbound on the freeway south of Sweetbrier Avenue.
The CHP said the driver allowed the Toyota Highlander to swerve off the right-hand shoulder and crashed into a tree. The vehicle overturned and rested in the southbound lanes of the freeway.
Just minutes later, a 56-year-old man saw the crashed Toyota Highlander from the northbound lanes and pulled over to help the people in the car.
However, he was hit by a vehicle that immediately fled the scene.
Additionally, a 55-year-old man driving a 2022 Ford Ranger southbound on the freeway, south of Sweetbrier Avenue, was unable to avoid crashing into the tree located in the southbound lanes of I-5.
Immediately, the responding medical team rushed the driver and the passengers of the 2019 Toyota Highlander to Mercy Mount Shasta for minor injuries.
Similarly, the 56-year-old man who helped the occupants in the Highlander was taken to Marcy Redding for major injuries.
