Pulled Over Driver and CHP Officer Struck by Truck near 47th Avenue
SACRAMENTO, CA (July 10, 2018) – A man was hospitalized Tuesday morning following a truck collision on Highway 99 near 47th Avenue.
As per reports, the collision took place shortly before 10:30 AM. A 24-year-old Sacramento man driving a Toyota 4Runner was stopped by a CHP Officer on the right-hand shoulder of the highway for a cell phone violation.
That was when a big box truck lost control and headed toward the patrol motorcycle and the 4Runner. The CHP officer was able to escape the truck’s path by driving up the embankment alongside the shoulder. The truck driver attempted to steer back toward the highway, causing the truck to clip the motorcycle’s rear before colliding with the 4Runner.
The SUV overturned as a result of the collision. Its driver was still inside the vehicle when it rolled over, but he was able to free himself and crawl out of the wreckage. He was transported to the UC Davis Medical Center for evaluation after complaints of shoulder pain.
The CHP officer and the 49-year-old truck driver were reportedly unharmed from the crash. Drugs and alcohol were ruled out as possible factors, and the collision remains under investigation. No additional information has been released to the public at this time.
