Severed Brakes on Lime Bike Cause Accident near University Bridge
SEATTLE, WA (September 12, 2018) – A man was hospitalized Wednesday midnight following a bicycle crash on Fuhrman Avenue East. His name and place of residence was not immediately released to the public.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the collision took place a block from the University Bridge.
The 18-year-old victim was riding a bike-share bicycle when he crashed into a tree after its brakes failed. He was taken to the hospital with unidentified injuries, and is considered to be in stable condition.
Reports stated that the victim’s Lime e-bike brakes’s were slashed. An investigation showed that it was possible someone had severed the bike’s brake cable on purpose. Police said this has been an ongoing problem, with several incidents of brake slashings over the summer.
