ALBANY, CA (September 15, 2019) – A man whose car became disabled was fatally struck by a passing vehicle early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The fatal incident happened around 2:00 a.m. on eastbound 80 Freeway near Buchanan Street exit.
CHP officers arrived and found the man, appeared to be in his 30s, lying in the roadway. Berkeley paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to a preliminary investigation, a 1998 Honda Civic had become disabled on the freeway in the lane to the right of the fast lane. The driver got out of the Honda and was standing on the highway near his car. As he stood there, a driver in a 2018 Jeep Cherokee struck him.
The Jeep driver sustained a broken wrist during the crash. He remained at the scene and was cooperative.
