Male Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Freight Train near South Gateway Drive

 
MADERA, CA (October 25, 2018) – A pedestrian was killed Thursday afternoon following a train accident near East 9th Street. The name of the victim is being withheld, pending positive identification and family notification.
 
According to the Madera Police Department, the incident took place at about 12:10 PM near South Gateway Drive. A freight train was traveling southbound when it hit the pedestrian. Events that led to the fatal collision were not immediately available.
 
The victim, described as a man in his late 30s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Meanwhile, the train operator remained and cooperated with investigators. No other injuries were reported by the authorities.
 
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fatal crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call Detective Sgt Mark Trukki at (559) 675-4255. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
