Driver Arrested Fatal Accident in Lakewood
Lakewood, WA (July 08, 2022) – On Wednesday, a man sustained fatal injuries in a pursuit accident on Irene Avenue Southwest.
The fatal incident took place at about 9:30 p.m. in the 10500 block area.
According to the investigators, a Lakewood K-9 unit arrived at the scene of road rage and aggravated assault with a firearm incident. The 38-year-old male suspect driving a black SUV refused to pull over. That is when a chase started.
Officers say the suspect pointed a gun at multiple people in Milton and fled from the police. Later on, the suspect ended up in a neighborhood off Route 512 and South Tacoma Way.
Moreover, the suspect rammed a K-9 unit twice, then, backed his SUV into an unoccupied car nearby to avoid being struck.
A male resident came out of his house with a shotgun. He fired at the suspect’s vehicle as it drove towards him.
The suspect drove into a parked vehicle in the resident’s driveway before pinning the man against his home and the vehicle.
Immediately, the paramedics took the unidentified male resident to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
On the other hand, the officer and K-9 did not sustain injuries from the collision.
Suspect Booked in Jail
Later on, the authorities arrested the suspect. He faces several felony charges, including assault and eluding police. Officers say he could also be charged with homicide.
Officers added that they located a gun in the suspect’s vehicle.
He is to be arraigned Friday in a Pierce County court. There is no information if a bond has been set in the case yet.
