Lucerne Valley Deadly Pedestrian Accident on Highway 247
LUCERNE VALLEY, CA (September 16, 2019) — A 37-year-old man suffered fatal injuries in a pedestrian accident on Highway 247 Thursday night.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 8:17 p.m. between Aliento Road and Midway Avenue.
A southbound 1993 GMC Safari van struck the pedestrian who was walking in the southbound lane of the highway. The victim died at the scene. His name will be released after the family is notified.
The officers said the driver of the van is a 48-year-old man from Hesperia. Reports indicated that he made a U-turn after the collision and then waited for help to arrive.
The driver said the man jumped out in front of him in the middle of the highway. He initially thought he hit an animal.
As per a witness account, the driver had no time to react and hit the pedestrian.
The CHP closed Highway 247 for several hours while they investigated the crash. They did not suspect that drugs or alcohol was a factor.
