BAKERSFIELD, CA (April 4, 2023) – Monday morning, a man died in a tragic hit-and-run crash on Highway 99 near 7th Standard Road.

The incident happened at about 1:04 a.m. on southbound Highway 99 at 7th Standard Road.

Officers found a pedestrian down the road in north Bakersfield.

According to officers, the incident began with a traffic crash that led to the pedestrian dying.

The CHP revealed that an unknown vehicle traveled south on Highway 99 on the on-ramp at an unknown speed.

Reports said that the pedestrian walked across the on-ramp and went directly in the path of the unknown vehicle.

Officers confirmed that the front of the unknown vehicle hit the pedestrian.

Meanwhile, the male pedestrian fell onto the roadway where he came to rest.

Officers declared the pedestrian dead at the scene.

After the crash, the unknown vehicle drove away.

The incident shut down Highway 99 from 7th Standard for about two hours for the investigation.

Also, the authorities do not believe that alcohol and/or drugs played a role in the crash.
