1 Killed and 1 Hurt in Riverside County Incident on Grapefruit Boulevard and Avenue 60
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA (November 26, 2020) – Tuesday evening, a man died and a woman was injured in a crash on Grapefruit Boulevard and Avenue 60.
According to California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred on Grapefruit Boulevard, south of Avenue 60, in Thermal at around 5:20 p.m.
Reports revealed that a southbound 1997 Ford Ranger driven by a 44-year-old Thermal man veered towards the opposite lane. Then, it struck a 65-year-old Thermal woman driving a northbound 2006 Kia Sorento.
The man was still inside his pickup when it started to catch fire, CHP said. Meanwhile, a passerby managed to extricate the woman from her vehicle.
According to California Fire, the man died before the paramedics arrived. Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 5:30 p.m.
Responders rushed the woman to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment.
Grapefruit Boulevard was closed due to the crash, Cal Fire Capt. Fernando Herrera said. All lanes are reopened by 8:15 p.m.
