1 Killed in Scotts Valley Auto Accident on Highway 17 near Mt Hermon Road
SCOTTS VALLEY, CA (June 6, 2021) – Friday night, a man died in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 17 near Mt Hermon Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2016 Toyota Tacoma traveled at a high rate of speed. Then, it attempted to overtake a slow-moving Toyota Camry.
As a result, the Tacoma rear-ended the Camry, pushing the Camry into the bushes after losing control.
Moreover, the force of the crash ejected the Tacoma driver into the road. Responders pronounced the 28-year-old male Tacoma driver dead at the scene.
Reports revealed that the 22-year-old Oakland woman driving the Camry and the Tacoma driver failed to use seat belts.
Meanwhile, officials closed down the northbound lanes of Highway 17 for several hours to give way to the investigation.
Also, officers do not believe that drugs and alcohol played a role in the fatal incident.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld, pending notification to the next of kin.
Our sympathies are extended to the family and friends of the victim.
